Global law firm and Silver Diversity Mark signatory, Baker McKenzie has announced the launch of a new Domestic Abuse Policy.
In Northern Ireland, domestic abuse currently affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men, according to Belfast Women’s Aid. Domestic abuse is not limited to physical violence and can take the form of sexual, emotional, psychological or economic abuse, as well as coercive and controlling behaviour.
With the launch of this policy, Baker McKenzie is able to offer tailored support to its employees who may be affected. The organisation is introducing key measures such as:
- Paid leave provision for individuals experiencing domestic abuse and family violence
- Financial assistance in order to meet urgent needs, flexibility with working arrangements
- Practical safety measures within the workplace and assistance with accessing internal and external resources and support.
Information about the internal channels of support available, relevant external organisations and resources can also be found in the policy. But for all emergency situations, it is strongly advised to call 999.
With this policy, Baker McKenzie aims to ensure that its employees who experience domestic abuse receive appropriate support, as well as a safe and secure workplace.
In tandem with the launch of this policy, Women’s Aid also held a domestic abuse information session on 7th March that gave Baker McKenzie’s employees a greater understanding of the types of abuse that can occur and the support that is available.
Diversity Mark applauds Baker McKenzie on successfully launching such a crucial policy.
