Nazia Latif Appointed to Equality Commission for Northern Ireland

Diversity Mark’s Independent Assessor, Nazia Latif, has been appointed to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.

Her appointment by Northern Ireland secretary Hilary Benn took effect from 1 September 2024 for a period of three years.

Nazia commented on her appointment “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as a Commissioner to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. This is such an important institution with a crucial role to play for all communities living in Northern Ireland.  I look forward to working with fellow Commissioners and colleagues at ECNI to promote and advance equality protections.”

Nazia is co-founder of Right Practice, where she helps organisations meet their human rights and equality commitments.

She has worked with clients in Northern Ireland and internationally on a range of research and training projects, including the Asia Pacific Forum and the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise.

She is currently an authority member of the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA). She also serves on the Northern Ireland committee of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust and sits as Independent Assessor for Diversity Mark.

Nazia previously held the position of investigations and policy adviser at the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC). She is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, completed her MA at the University of Durham and completed her PhD at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Congratulations to Nazia on this recent appointment.
