TLT Accredited with Silver Diversity Mark in Northern Ireland

TLT has been accredited with the Silver Diversity Mark in Northern Ireland, recognising its dedication to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.

This accreditation, awarded by Diversity Mark, is a mark of progress allowing organisations to demonstrate to their people and clients, a commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace. The framework has been designed to help businesses set up realistic targets and actions plans, which are then ratified by an independent panel that also provides feedback and support.

This is the third time TLT has received this award, after demonstrating continued measurable progress since 2022. The firm was particularly commended for its improvement in female representation at board and senior management levels and for making progress against three specific gender-based goals. TLT was also highly commended for its efforts to improve social mobility, boost diversity in early careers roles and provide further support to neurodivergent colleagues.

In the last twelve-months TLT has introduced a number of market-leading initiatives, supporting its inclusion and diversity goals, including:

  • Reaching its gender target of 33% female partners two years ahead of schedule and committing to a public target of 50% by 2029.
  • Improving support for neurodivergent colleagues, including Line Manager toolkits and ADHD and Autism diagnosis and assessment via Private Medical Insurance cover.
  • Formalising its ambitions to improve ethnic diversity by announcing in October 2023 a long-term target of achieving 35% ethnic minority representation across legal early careers roles (trainees and apprentices) by Oct 2030.
  • Promoting the elimination of gender-stereotyping and/or misgendering by introducing gender-inclusive language in all company correspondence including all legal documents.

Christine White, director at Diversity Mark said: “We are delighted to congratulate TLT on being awarded the Silver Diversity Mark. This achievement not only underscores TLT’s dedication to diversity and inclusion but also highlights their leadership in creating opportunities for professionals in Northern Ireland and beyond. By achieving this accreditation, TLT signals to potential applicants that they are joining an organisation that values and celebrates diverse perspectives, ensuring every team member can thrive. This milestone further strengthens TLT’s position as an employer of choice in Northern Ireland’s competitive legal sector.”

Commenting on the award, Katharine Kimber, partner and head of location in Northern Ireland said: “Receiving the Silver Diversity Mark is a real endorsement for all the hard work we have invested in ensuring we prioritise inclusion and diversity. Many of the initiatives launched in the last twelve-months, alongside the tangible results we have achieved along the way, place TLT at the forefront of driving change in the legal sector in Northern Ireland.

We are proud of our success, but we also understand that building a diverse, welcoming workplace is a constant, ongoing process, and intend to continue striving for further progress. I’m looking forward to continuing to be a part of that journey and preparing the firm for what comes next.”

This award is the latest in a series of recent recognitions for the firm’s ED&I efforts, after ranking 39th in the Social Mobility Employer Index, being recognised as a Top 30 Employer for working families and appearing in the Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality list for the second consecutive year.
