The Silver Diversity Mark is awarded to organisations demonstrating significant progress in advancing diversity and inclusion across their workforce. This prestigious accreditation recognises Action for Children’s achievements in supporting underrepresented groups, and creating equal opportunities for all employees.
Action for Children, which has around 200 staff in Northern Ireland, recently upgraded its bronze accreditation from Diversity Mark NI to a shining silver.
The charity, which will celebrate 25 years of working in Northern Ireland this summer, supports and speaks out on behalf of the most vulnerable children and families in the province.
To ensure it is representative of everyone it helps and employs, Action for Children has developed a robust Diversity and Inclusion strategy. Priority areas which will be focused on until 2027 include:
- Workforce and service user diversity and representation
- Culture, participation and sharing lived experience
- Anti-racism
- Women’s health and violence against women and girls
- Men in social care
Lorna Ballard, Director for Action for Children in Northern Ireland, said: “The Diversity Mark accreditation process has been really helpful in our journey towards embedding diversity and inclusion in our work and in holding us accountable.
“We have learnt a lot through obtaining bronze, and now silver, accreditation and is has been encouraging to see the progress we’ve made and the engagement of our staff team.
“We are a charity for everyone in Northern Ireland – whether they work with us or use our services and that’s why diversity and inclusion is at our heart.”
Emma Lyttle, Head of Engagement at Diversity Mark, added: “Huge congratulations to all the team at Action for Children on such a robust and passionate submission to obtain the Silver Diversity Mark Accreditation. We look forward to continuing to support their ongoing actions and initiatives.”
